Bob McGrath, beloved ‘Sesame Street’ cast member and singer, dies at 90, Sesame Workshop confirms

NEW YORK — Bob McGrath, a popular Sesame Street actor and singer, has died at the age of 90, Sesame Workshop confirms.

McGrath, an original actor, has been part of the Sesame Street family for over 50 years.

Sesame Workshop released a statement in a series of tweets on Sunday, saying they will be forever grateful for his passionate and creative contributions to the show.

“Sesame Workshop mourns the loss of Bob McGrath, a beloved member of the Sesame Street family for over 50 years. As a founding member of the cast, Bob embodied the tunes of Sesame Street like no other, and his performances brought generations of joy and wonder to children around the world, whether he was bringing them the ABCs, the people in their neighborhoods, or the simple joy of having music in their hearts feel, teach. A globally revered artist, Bob’s rich tenor has filled airwaves and concert halls from Las Vegas to Saskatchewan to Tokyo many times. We will be forever grateful for his longstanding passionate creative contributions to Sesame Street and honored that he shared so much of his life with us .”
