Body found near Darby Creek in Prospect Park, Delaware County

PROSPECT PARK, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Authorities are trying to identify a body found near Darby Creek in Delaware County.

Police say someone found the body at Darby Crescent Road and Wanamaker Avenue in Prospect Park just before 6pm on Wednesday.

Chopper 6 above the crime scene showed police focused on a patch of land surrounded by police tape.

“We were in my house. I’m the house next to where the body was found,” said George Foreaker of Prospect Park.

George Foreaker described the moment his neighbor told him he had found a body.

“The neighbor comes up to me. He said, ‘You guys better get your cars out there because it’s going to be busy,'” Foreaker said. “I said, ‘Why Tom?’ He said, ‘I just found a body.’”

Foreaker pointed to the spot where he had seen the body, in a wooded area next to the creek.

“We just looked at it, we didn’t touch anything. But it was 20 meters from water. So it didn’t wash up,” Foreaker said.

Norwood police are investigating, as is the Delaware County Attorney’s Office, which said the investigation is ongoing.

Local residents said they were surprised a body was found in their neighborhood.

“It’s quiet back here and it’s really a shock to hear that something like this is happening,” said Prospect Park’s Andy DiGrazio.

Some said they were taking precautions as not much information was released by the authorities.

“I hope it doesn’t happen again,” Foreaker said. “It would be scary if whoever put it there was still there.”

“Of course I sealed the hatches, make sure nobody’s around, I don’t know what’s going on,” DiGrazio said.

The Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed they performed an autopsy on the body Thursday, but were unable to release more information as the investigation is ongoing.

No further details have been released at this time.
