‘Born Pink’: Blackpink announces new album, world tour

Calling all Blinks: Blackpink has revealed new details about his upcoming sophomore album and world tour.

The K-pop group announced via YouTube on Sunday that their second studio album, Born Pink, will be released in September, with a lead single in August. In October, Blackpink members Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé will embark on a world tour.

“Let’s go,” Jennie captioned the YouTube announcement on her Instagram story.

Born Pink is set to be released almost two years after Blackpink’s debut, simply titled The Album, which was released in October 2020.

“We had a lot of ideas, but at the end of the day we knew our fans were waiting for our album so much that we settled on what best described it: ‘Blackpink: The Album’ sounded straightforward,” said Rosé 2020 the late-night presenter Jimmy Kimmel.

Before and since, the dancers and singers have undertaken a number of group and solo ventures. In 2019, Blackpink wowed concertgoers at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. A few months later, the quartet of K-pop idols brought an energetic set to The Forum in Inglewood.

Rosé and Lisa released a couple of solo tracks last year, Jennie just joined the cast of Weeknd’s upcoming HBO series The Idol, and all four women recently signed high-profile branding deals. Meanwhile, Blackpink haven’t released any music as a group for almost two years.

“I feel like I’m recharging,” Jisoo told Rolling Stone, which featured Blackpink on its cover in May. “My life isn’t too busy these days because we’re not actively performing yet. I want to come back with music quickly.”
