Brentford looking to beat Arsenal in race to sign 19-year-old Serie A star

Brentford is said to be looking to overtake Arsenal in the race to sign Aaron Hickey from Bologna.

The Bees are the latest on a list of potential suitors that includes Napoli and Newcastle United, while Bayern Munich have also been interested in the past.

A Daily Mail report suggests that Thomas Frank’s team have long admired Hickey and are planning to promote interested parties this summer.

The 19-year-old player has been in good form for I am Rossublu and was named the club’s Young Player of the Season this season.

He has made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit so far since joining them from Hearts in 2020. He has scored and provided an assist. .

Hickey primarily plays at left-back, although his versatility has meant he has been positioned on the right flank of the defence, while he is also comfortable at full-back.

His form has made him an all-round international, having won two caps for Scotland.

Arsenal have been tracking Hickey for some time and are tipped to bring in the Scotland international this summer. However, they will have to cut their jobs if they want to bring him in, considering the number of clubs interested.

Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle United has questioned Mikel Arteta’s progress

Arsenal have struggled over the past decade, with the Gunners failing to make consistent progress that has led to clear success.

However, Mikel Arteta’s appointment appeared to have lifted spirits and restored hopes that the Gunners were on the right track.

His job seems to make sense with Arsenal holding a significant advantage in the race for the top four with just a month left of the season.

Three consecutive defeats made their advantage seem to disappear, but the contradictions of the people around played in their favor.

All that collapsed in the last week. First, a crushing defeat against arch-rival Tottenham gave them a one-point lead, but the Emirates Stadium team still held their fate in their hands.

Memorabilia from their last two games against Newcastle United and Everton will see them secure a place in the top four for the first time in six seasons.

However, the specter of previous seasons came to haunt and a complete surrender caused Arsenal to lose 0-2 to the Warblers.

The loss is characterized by everything that has gone wrong at the club over the past decade. The players were not ready to fight and lacked the motivation and ambition to cross the line.

This has ruled out all their chances to secure the top four. A win for Tottenham over relegated Norwich City would see Spurs finish a sixth straight season above their rivals.

Furthermore, their substantial goal difference means a draw could still put Lily Whites ahead.

This puts a huge dent in the progress that seems to be being made by Mikel Arteta. Failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League would also affect the club’s finances and their transfer plans could be thwarted.
