British Prime Minister Liz Truss Mistaken For A ‘Minor Royal’ By Australian Newscaster, Gets Apology

whoops Well, that’s not the kind of mistake you want to make. British Royal News says an Australian news presenter has spoken out after mistaking Prime Minister Liz Truss for a “little king”. Here’s what you need to know.

An Australian journalist has defended himself after failing to recognize British Prime Minister Liz Truss while covering the Queen’s funeral. Channel 9 presenters Peter Overton and Tracy Grimshaw were commenting on yesterday’s ceremony at Westminster Abbey as they became the focus of an embarrassing slip.

They said they were struggling to identify everyone making their way to the church in central London, and Mr Overton suggested Ms Truss could have been an “underage queen”.

Britain’s new Prime Minister has only been in office for two weeks, having met with the Queen to form a new government just two days before the death of the 96-year-old monarch. Despite this, the pair were mocked on social media, with people calling the mistake “embarrassing” and accusing the presenters of “not doing their homework.”

Overton has since spoken out, blaming technical issues for the blunder and insisting he would definitely recognize the Prime Minister otherwise. He tweeted: “We relied on a video feed for the live stream of arrivals. Sometimes the video froze so we turned to have a look. I know what British Prime Minister Liz Truss looks like. The back of her hat, not so much!”

Speaking to Australian talk radio station 2GB, the news anchor joked: “I pissed off a couple of my pommy cousins. We were told another motorcade was arriving and we lost our monitor with the broadcast feed.”

Meanwhile, Liz Truss says she’s honored to have met the Queen in her final days. The Prime Minister said she felt it was a crucial part of her role to ensure that this “important moment in our nation’s history” was properly highlighted. Asked how she felt during the tumultuous first two weeks of her tenure as Prime Minister, Truss said: “First of all, it has been a momentous time and a time of great sorrow and sadness in Britain and I think we are having a great outpouring of love and affection for Her late Majesty and tremendous warmth towards Charles III.”

Truss also described seeing the streets lined as she traveled to Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast for yesterday’s funeral, and from London to Windsor.
