Brutal New Footage Shows Off The Callisto Protocol For December Release

Today’s State of Play brings a host of exciting projects to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and the upcoming PlayStation VR 2, but few are as anticipated as Callisto Protocol, the upcoming horror game from Striking Distance Studios. The game received a new trailer at today’s presentation, along with a launch date of December 2nd.

For those who don’t know, Striking Distance Studios is run by Glen Schofield, the same person who helped develop the original Dead Space back in 2008. While EA is actively working on a remake of this original game, Schofield’s team is designing a new universe of horror that’s clearly inspired by the gameplay and visual palette of this older game.

In the new trailer, we get an in-depth look at the gory and terrifying gameplay that awaits players when the game launches later this year. We see protagonist Jacob Lee making his way through one eerie looking space location to the next, often with the looming presence of the gas giant planet Jupiter overhead.

Jacob wanders through narrow and dimly lit corridors before a series of monsters manage to get to him. We see an interesting mix of melee and ranged weapons for the frightened hero to use. But even with a few helpful toys things don’t always run smoothly for Jacob. Striking Distance has no regard for what will happen to their main character if players fail to pull him out of a tight spot. In a particularly unsettling final sequence, we see one of the creatures rip off part of its head and stand up for a game over in what is almost certainly an anti-screen prelude.

The Callisto Protocol happens to be this month’s cover story at Game Informer, and you can head over to our Game Hub to read all the info we have on the game as it becomes available.

In the meantime, watch the trailer in all its spooky glory and wait for The Callisto Protocol to release on December 2nd for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Brutal New Footage Shows Off The Callisto Protocol For December Release
