BTS poised to join military, will reunite as a group in 2025

The members of BTS are “officially moving forward with plans to complete their military service,” the band’s record label announced Monday.

According to Bighit Music, following the release of his solo project later this month, Jin will become the first member of the group to join the South Korean military. Jin, V, Suga, Jungkook, RM, Jimin and J-Hope will continue to pursue individual efforts while staggering their military commitments and “look forward to reuniting as a group around 2025.”

In South Korea, eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 must complete at least 18 months of military service. The members of BTS are between 25 and 29 years old. Jin is the oldest.

“BIGHIT MUSIC has focused on the milestone where it would be possible to respect the needs of the country and serve these healthy young men with their countrymen, and that is now,” the label said in a statement.

“We support and encourage our artists and are exceedingly proud that they will now have all the time to explore their unique interests and fulfill their duty in serving the country they call home.”

The announcement comes days after the singers performed together in Busan and months after the septet’s release of the three-part anthology album Proof, which features greatest hits, remastered tracks, unreleased demos and new songs – including the single Yet to Come.

In June, the K-pop stars said they wanted to “spend some time apart” and work on solo projects to show fans who they are as individual artists. However, a rep for the band was quick to clarify that BTS “is not on hiatus” and would “remain active in various formats.”
