Matt shared a series of photos from their time together in Busted and from the tour.

He wrote: “James Bourne is 40 years old today!!!

“This guy has been by my side for 24 years now. I’ve never met anyone like him! He constantly blows my mind…! I love you brother. Happy Birthday.

“What a time to be alive!”

But Busted fans couldn’t believe James was turning 40.

One person expressed their disbelief in the comments, writing: “You don’t look a day over 39!!”

A second wrote: “There’s no way he’s 40 years old,” and a third repeated: “40! It makes me feel so old, I can’t believe it.”

A fourth person commented: “You look so young!”

This came after the group – made up of Matt, James and Charlie Simpson – performed a number of their biggest hits, including ‘Year 3000’ and ‘Air Hostess’, to a sell-out crowd.

On Sunday evening they made their triumphant return to London’s O2 Arena and were in fighting form.

But the band, who will release their new album Greatest Hits 2.0 on Friday, couldn’t help but take a swipe at their music rival McFly during their performance.

Matt said: “We have a new album out.

“I’m trying to be zen these days, but you know what’s bothering me?

“We’ve never had a number one album. McFly had two.”

A loud fan was heard shouting “F**k McFly,” to which Matt hit back: “No, don’t f**k McFly, they don’t need any more kids.”

“You don’t have a damn place on stage.”

Busted announced exclusively in The Sun earlier this year that they were reforming.

Speaking about their comeback in March, James said: “It’s out of this world that we’re doing this and we couldn’t be more excited about it.”

“It will be evil.”
