STOCKTON, California– Stockton authorities said Saturday an arrest had been made in connection with the six murders in California.
This was announced by Stockton Police Commissioner Stanley McFadden, City Manager Harry Black and Mayor Kevin Lincoln at a joint press conference on the investigation into the murder series.
Wesley Brownlee, 43, of Stockton, was arrested around 2 a.m. Saturday, Chief McFadden said.
“Our surveillance team tracked this individual while driving. We observed his patterns and found this morning that he was on a kill mission. He was hunting,” Chief McFadden said.
Chief McFadden said Brownlee was pulled over when officers made contact with the suspect. Brownlee wore dark clothing and had a mask around his neck. The boss said Brownlee was also armed with a firearm when he was taken into custody.
Brownlee will be charged at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday
Authorities said earlier this month the California serial killer appears “on a mission” during the 2021 fatal shooting of six men and wounding of a woman.
Ballistics testing and video evidence linked the crimes in Stockton and Oakland, about 70 miles apart, police said.
The first fatal shooting was in Oakland in April 2021. The woman was wounded days later in Stockton. More than a year passed before the five Stockton murders took place between July 8 and September 27, all within a few square miles, police said.
All of the victims were alone, police said, and the killings happened at night or early in the morning.
“What we seem to have in common is probably complexion — they were people of different races, but they have a similar complexion,” the boss continued. “The place, the environments were consistent: they’re very dark places, they’re places where there aren’t very many witnesses around.”
“That’s a person lurking in the shadows,” McFadden added. “Our victims will be taken by surprise.”
