Camila Alves reveals the shocking truth about Matthew McConaughey

Apparently Matthew McConaughey isn’t that “dazed and confused” after all.
Camila Alves McConaughey revealed this in a recent interview life in the south that her husband McConaughey, to whom she has been married for eleven years, is nowhere near as confident and carefree as his characters.
“I don’t think people actually have that image of Matthew anymore because [of] the kind of work and the things he did,” said Alves McConaughey on this week’s episode of Southern Living’s Biscuits & Jam podcast.
“But once we started dating, it was this picture of Matthew being high, relaxed, shirtless, whatever — which I say, ‘The guy doesn’t even smoke.’ Where does this vision come from?’”
The 41-year-old model explained that the 53-year-old Interstellar star is “actually the opposite” of all of those things. In reality, she said, he was “very organized, very punctual, very prepared.” Alves McConaughey credited McConaughey’s mother with instilling “many of those qualities” in him.
Alves McConaughey also opened up about her own relationship with McConaughey’s mother, who she recalls “really testing it” when she first started dating the Dallas Buyers Club actor. She said her mother-in-law used to belittle her, addressing her in “very broken” Spanish and calling her by McConaughey’s ex-girlfriends’ names.
According to Alves McConaughey, her momentum only improved when she took her mother-in-law on a business trip to Istanbul. During the trip, McConaughey’s mother started crying about something, and Alves McConaughey eventually realized the now 91-year-old woman was “full of shit.”
“I brought my spicy Brazilian Latino side and let it be,” said Alves McConaughey. “I returned to her.”
After a heated “back and forth,” Alves McConaughey recalled, her mother-in-law finally looked at her and said, “Okay. Now you’re in.”
“All she wanted was for me to fight back,” she said.
“From… that night we have an incredible relationship and I have so much respect for her. She has so much respect for me. It can get difficult at times, but we always end with a good laugh and a joke.”
Alves McConaughey stopped by the Biscuits & Jam pod to talk about her Women of Today initiative, an online community of women who encourage one another by sharing recipes, self-care routines, home decor ideas, fashion tips, and share health information.
She and McConaughey got engaged in 2011 and married in 2012. They have three children together: Levi (15), Vida (13) and Livingston (10).
