MIA has recently engaged in dangerous and bizarre far-right politics. For example, in 2020, MIA stated that she would prefer death to a COVID-19 vaccine. In the same year, she also commented on the conspiracy theory linking 5G to COVID-19, tweeting: “Prevention is always better [sic] Cure. Can you love Vax and 5G at the same time?” and expressing a belief that 5G has the ability “to confuse or slow down the body in the healing process as the body learns to deal with new wavelengths of singles [sic] Frequency etc at the same time as Cov.”

And now she’s hugging Candace Owens. Looks:

MIA grew up as a Tamil, an ethnic minority, on the war-torn island nation of Sri Lanka since the 1980s. Her father was a major Tamil leader, but due to tensions between the Tamil people and the Sinhala majority in Sri Lanka, MIA moved to the UK when she was a child. A child who had to flee his homeland due to civil wars: MIA was a refugee.

MIA’s first two albums, Arular (2005) and Kala (2007), received critical acclaim for their fusion of hip-hop, electronic and world music. Kala’s single “Paper Planes” peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and sold over four million copies. Her third album Maya (2010) was preceded by the controversial single short film Born Free. Maya was her best chart work, reaching the top 10 on several charts. Her fourth studio album Matangi (2013) contained the single “Bad Girls”, which won an award at the MTV Video Music Awards. MIA released her fifth studio album, AIM, in 2016. She scored her first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 as the lead actress in Travis Scott’s “Franchise” (2020) and released her sixth studio album Mata two years later, with lead single “The One”.
