Car crashes into Trader Joe’s in Northern California; 5 injured

Five people were injured Thursday when a car crashed into a Trader Joe’s store in Alameda County, firefighters said.

The incident was reported around 5 p.m. at the Castro Valley market.

Photos taken at the scene show a silver sedan standing in the center of the store, surrounded by Trader Joe’s ephemera and firefighters.

Five people suffered minor to moderate injuries in the accident. The building sustained no structural damage, Alameda County Fire Department Deputy Chief Ryan Nishimoto said.

The driver who sped from the parking lot into the store was cooperating with authorities, California State Highway Patrol Officer Dan Jacowitz told Bay City News.

Investigators don’t believe the crash was intentional, and drugs or alcohol are said to have played no part, Jacowitz said. Car crashes into Trader Joe’s in Northern California; 5 injured
