Carlos Alcaraz outlasts Jannik Sinner in epic 5-setter to make US Open semifinals

NEW YORK — Carlos Alcaraz outlasted Jannik Sinner in the last final in US Open history to advance to the semifinals with a 6-3 6-7(7) 6-7(0) 7-5 6-3 victory.
The No. 3 fended off a match point in the fourth set and then put away the match, which ended at 2:50 a.m. on Thursday. Three previous US Open games had ended at 2:26 a.m.
The match lasted 5 hours, 15 minutes, 11 minutes less than another US Open record.
Alcaraz meets Frances Tiafoe on Friday in the first Grand Slam semifinal for both.
