PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Center City Restaurant Week begins September 12th and runs through September 24th.
“For nearly 20 years, Center City District Restaurant Week has offered thousands of diners the opportunity to experience some of Philadelphia’s finest dining at a reduced price. Monday, September 12 through Saturday, September 24, the tradition continues with more than 75 locations offering fixed-price dining, including three-course meals for $40 per person and select lunches for $25 -dollars per person,” the Center City District said in a press release.
The Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association tells Action News that fewer restaurants are participating compared to previous years as food costs and the pandemic have made it harder for businesses to afford discounted menus.
Shawn Nixon is the general manager of The Goat Rittenhouse near 18th Street and Sansom Street. The restaurant opened during the pandemic.
Nixon is positive about Restaurant Week.
“It helps drive business, but it really caters to people who may or may not come into town to go to the restaurants. They might go to one of the larger restaurants, and Restaurant Week is about the smaller restaurants,” Nixon said.
The goal is to get more people downtown.
Crime is high; In fact, robberies in Center City have steadily increased by 20% over the past two years.
The office buildings are still not operating at full capacity, but the return of 8,000 Comcast employees to Center City offices this week could be a strong sign that employees are returning.
“Now that I live in the city, I see a lot more people going out than I used to,” said Jorge Cintron of Center City.
