Changes may be on the way for RiverGate Mall

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Big changes could be in store for the RiverGate Mall in Goodlettsville. A mixed-use plan comprising 476 multi-family units is proposed for the former Macy’s, once an anchor store for RiverGate Mall.

The Lofts at Rivergate is the working name for the project, but before work begins, the site’s zoning must be changed.

“The developer has a plan that would fall within our overall plan, which is to develop units in the regional center, and it would require repurposing,” said Goodlettsville City Manager Tim Ellis.

Macy’s department store closed in 2020 and the property has been vacant since then.

“I think there are a lot of things that have changed with each mall. I don’t think there was a mall in the United States that was probably the same as it was 10 years ago. And the same goes here. And I know the owners have been very creative as they explore ideas for further development,” said Ellis.

This new development could reinvigorate the Rivergate area.

“There is a lot of interest in the Rivergate area and the redevelopment of this particular area around the mall. So that would be just another piece of that if it goes ahead,” Ellis said.

Ellis also mentioned that there will be a meeting in July where the developer will discuss his plans for the space with city officials and the Planning Commission.
