Chet Holmgren’s NBA summer league debut has the mayor of Oklahoma City ecstatic

Chet Holmgren competed for the Oklahoma City Thunder in Tuesday night’s NBA Summer League. Less than two weeks ago, Holmgren was selected runner-up overall by the Thunder in the 2022 NBA draft. His size and skill made him a top 2 pick, and he’s caught the eye of a high-profile Oklahoma figure.
In his league debut in the summer, Holmgren scored 13 points in the first quarter, demonstrating his inside and outside scoring opportunities. His 13 was more points than the entire Jazz squad in the first frame. He also rejected three shots, one to 7-foot center Tacko Fall.
Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt has been watching Holmgren in action, and he’s ready to clear his schedule to see the Gonzaga grad at the NBA level.
It’s still the summer league and Holmgren’s first few minutes of NBA action, but Holt’s excitement seems justified. When Holmgren entered the draft, he was one of the top contenders and received the high “Unicorn” label for his special skills. If Tuesday night is any indication of Holmgren’s future, Holt should be confident about the Thunder for years to come.
