Chicago Sky beat New York Liberty by WNBA playoff-record 38 to force Game 3

Kahleah Copper scored 20 points and Courtney Vandersloot added 16 to help Chicago to a record win over New York 100-62 to tie Saturday’s first round playoff series and force a decider Game 3.

The teams play in New York on Tuesday for a trip to the WNBA semifinals.

Candace Parker added 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for Sky, who broke her own WNBA record for widest playoff lead. Chicago won at home in Game 3 of the 2021 WNBA Finals by 36 points.

Defending champions Sky finished just behind Copper, who scored the team’s first five points, in New York. She suffered a reported ankle injury towards the end of Friday’s training session and had to be rescued from the pitch. Chicago coach James Wade said last year’s Finals MVP would be fine.

Kupfer opened the scoring with a 3-pointer and then drove hard to the basket. She was also disruptive on defense, forcing turnovers from New York. The Liberty had just eight errors in the first game. But they reached that total by the end of the first quarter, with Chicago leading 31-10. Copper had 10 points in the first quarter.

Chicago extended the lead to 31 in the second quarter, playing relentlessly on defense and leading 52-28 at halftime. New York couldn’t get any closer in the second half as Sky kept going offensively and defensively.
