Chiefs bar getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday – right in the heart of Eagles country in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — There will be rallies across the area on Super Bowl Sunday as Eagles fans cheer for the Birds.

But there’s going to be another rally, right in South Philadelphia, where people will be cheering for the Chiefs.

“We have the passion, just like Eagles fans do. We love and care for and root our team,” said Michael Puggi, a South Philadelphia Chiefs fan.

On the 1900 block of South 11th Street is a Kansas City Chiefs bar, Big Charlie’s Saloon.

The owner’s love for the team began in 1970 when his father backed the Chiefs and they won the Super Bowl. His friend Michael Puggi says he’s a Chiefs fan to show his support for the family bar.

“There are many storylines between the Eagles and the Chiefs. You know it goes way back. And then they also say the Kelce brothers, Andy Reid, if we go back to Carl Peterson — he was connected to the Eagles,” said Puggi, from South Philadelphia.

Big Charlie’s Saloon is packed with Kansas City gear. But now that the Philadelphia Eagles are playing the Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday, there are some mixed feelings about what colors they should appear in on game day.

“Kansas City, they’re an AFC team, that was my AFC team. You have your NFC team and your AFC team. Now I’m in a swamp,” said Patrick Newcomb of South Philadelphia.

We saw a regular Birds fan at the bar saying he’s not sure who to support since he’s friends with the Chiefs fans at the bar but is bleeding green.

“We have a crazy fan, his name is Stevie Mack. Yes, he likes the Eagles. He doesn’t know whether to cheer for the Eagles or the Chiefs,” Puggi said.

“I have a kind of bet that we give them this one, we get the next three. But I’ll give you this one,” said Stephen McDonald of South Philadelphia.
