Chuck Hatfield prepares to celebrate birthday No. 100

Friends are throwing a 100th birthday party for Chuck Hatfield, former Chatsworth High assistant baseball coach, on Wednesday. It takes place at 5:30pm in Chatsworth’s Luncheon Pavilion, complete with a food truck and a ceremony at which his jersey is retired.

“Coach Hattie”, as he is known, was born on June 15, 1922 in Franklin, Tennessee. He became a fixture of Chatsworth games in 1993 when former manager Tom Meusborn brought him on board as an assistant manager.

Here’s a 2017 profile of what Hatfield means to the people who have come into contact with him over the years.

Chatsworth won a 10th City Section baseball championship last season. Hatfield has featured on many of those titles.
