What do all those stats mean?

To keep things simple, think of these as your attack stats: Strength, Dexterity, Arcana, Faith and to some extent Luck (also affects item drop rate) . Many types of weapons that you get Salt and Sacrifice will scale based on these properties.

The rest are mostly support stats: Vitality (health), Willpower (stamina), Resolve (concentration / mana), and Endurance (burden). While you can put a few points into the assist/utility stat, it’s still easier to manage classes or buildings that focus on a specific attack attribute that increases your DPS.

How about hybrid classes or weapon loads?

To be fair, you can branch out and create an associative class later. However, my advice is to just stick to what works for you or what you’re comfortable with due to the leveling system and skill tree structure.

For example, you can see the original three Ranger perks in the image below. The closest buttons are mainly for increasing Dexterity, and many are tied to weapon levels that can be equipped (e.g. Halfspear, Dagger, Glaive, Rapier, Highblade, and Shortbow). Can you finally get buttons for Strength or Strength type weapons? Yes, but they are on the opposite side of the skill tree.

How about magic?

Magic or spell in Salt and Sacrifice Attached to weapons have skills called Runic Arts. They come in two flavors: Glyphreader and Banereader. Cleric and Paladin unlocked the Glyphreader (level 1) when they focused on Conviction. Meanwhile, Sage has unlocked Banereader due to Arcana’s focus.

Summary of roles in class

Knowing the above, here’s a rundown of what you can expect from classes in Salt and Sacrifice:

  • Pure STR boost role – Fighter
  • Tanky with some magic – Paladin
  • Lightning attacks with DEX – Assassin, Highblade or Ranger
  • Pure ARC caster – Sage

Using the Sage class in Salt and Sacrifice

That brings us to the Sage class in Salt and Sacrifice, which is what I used for most of my playthrough. While you won’t be as powerful as the other classes (it will be a chore to increase your Stamina just wearing heavy armor) you can make up for it with nukes abilities.

It’s pretty simple, since you just rely on Arcana and Resolve. While early game weapons are a bit mediocre, you’ll eventually get gear with the right Arcana miniaturization.

An example of a weapon you can get later in the game is the Stave of Scrolls, a material dropped by the Bibliomancer. The base spell, with Banereader (tier 3), creates a flurry of shards.

Compared to most other spells, all of these projectiles will hit the target, dealing massive damage over a short period of time. At the very low cost of 3 MP, it can be spammed to kill bosses with impunity.
