Classified items found at Donald Trump’s storage unit in Florida, according to report

WASHINGTON– Attorneys for former President Donald Trump found at least two items marked as classified during a recent search of a storage unit in West Palm Beach, Fla., and turned them over to the FBI, according to a report released Wednesday.

The Washington Post, citing anonymous sources, reported that the items were discovered by an outside team brought in by Trump’s officials to search his other properties for additional classified materials. The nature of the classified materials was not immediately clear, but the storage unit in which they were found had been used to hold items from a Northern Virginia office used by Trump associates after he left office, said the newspaper.

The FBI seized about 100 documents marked as classified during an August 8 search of Trump’s Palm Beach, Mar-a-Lago, home. There are also 37 documents with classification marks that Trump attorneys retrieved from the home during a visit in June, as well as 15 boxes containing about 184 classified documents recovered by the National Archives and Records Administration in January.

For months there has been a possibility that the Justice Department has not yet secured all classified materials.

The FBI’s August search of the home came after investigators found evidence that other sensitive documents remained there, although Trump officials confirmed that all classified documents requested in a Justice Department subpoena had been found and had been returned.

After a federal judge pressured the Trump team to demonstrate full compliance with the subpoena, the newspaper hired an outside firm to search for properties, including Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and Trump Tower in New York.

A spokesman for the Justice Department declined to comment.

A spokesperson for Trump, responding to reports of an outside firm searching for classified materials, said in a statement that “President Trump and his attorney remain cooperative and transparent despite the unprecedented, illegal and unwarranted attack on President Trump and his… Family from the Armed Department of Justice.”

Spokesman Steven Cheung did not respond to a subsequent phone call about later reports that suggested a search of the storage unit had found two items with classification marks.
