Clever tricks to help you counter Chesnaught in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – it’s easier than you think

It’s one of the starters from the Kalos region that appeared in Pokémon X & Y.

This launcher’s appearance follows Kalos’s fellow launcher, fan-favorite Greninja.

Here’s everything you need to know and the best counters for the upcoming Chesnaught raids in Pokemon SV.

Pokémon SV: Chesnaught Raids

Chesnaught raids take place from Friday, May 12, 2023 until Sunday May 14, 2023 and off again Friday May 19, 2023 until Sunday May 21, 2023.

It’s an extremely bulky defensive Pokemon that also has a decent Physical Attack stat.

As a grass/fighting type, it also has a large move pool with powerful rock, ground, grass, and fighting attacks.

With the Bulletproof ability, a number of super effective attacks like Aura Sphere and Energy Ball do not damage her.

It also comes with Rock Tera typing, which resists a number of common types.

Here’s the set we predict for Chesnaught:

The Mightiest Chesnaught – Level 100

  • Nature – Relaxed
  • Capability – Bulletproof
  • Article – None
  • Tera type – rocks
  • Potential move setSpiked shield, rock fall, hammer arm, mallet, Body press, bulk up, earthquake

Pokémon SV: Chesnaught Counter

Grass-types are invaluable here, as they are resistant to or neutral to a number of Chesnaught’s attacks.

With its massive physical defense, you’ll also need to use a dedicated attacker, preferably with defensive bulk.

Here’s what we recommend:

Lurantis

Lurantis is our top pick for this raid.

Lurantis is our preferred choice for these raids because it has the Contrary ability, which increases stats instead of decreasing them.

This means when it uses Leaf Storm, it increases Lurantis’ Attack by two stages instead of lowering it.

Contrary can quickly turn the tide of combat and will help when Chesnaught tries to lower one of his stats.

Pollen Puff can also help heal your comrades in battle. Here’s what we recommend.

Lurantis – Level 100

  • Nature – Clearly
  • Capability – Opposite
  • Article – Shell Bell
  • Tera type – Grass
  • Potential move set – Leaf Storm, Pollen Count, Ingrain, Grassland

Goat

Gogoat has some of the best bulk in the game and can boost it with the Grass Pelt ability.

Its other ability, Sap Sipper, is another strong choice as it boosts its attack when hit by a Grass move and negates the damage as well.

Gogoat also has a bunch of great supporting moves, although it doesn’t get the most out of its good physical attack.

Here’s what we recommend.

Goat – Level 100

  • Nature – Relaxed
  • Capability – Grass fur / juice sucker
  • Article – Shell Bell
  • Tera type – Grass
  • Potential move set – Grass Terrain, Sunny Day, Sunbeam, Milk Drink

Amoonguss has long been the support Pokemon of choice due to its incredible mass and typing.

It also has some of the best support moves in the game, and its Effect Spore ability allows status conditions even when the barrier is high.

Clear Smog is also especially helpful when Chesnaught decides to boost his Attack with Bulk Up.

Here’s what we recommend.

Amoonguss – Level 100

  • Nature – Clearly
  • Capability – Effect Spore
  • Article – Leftovers
  • Tera type – Grass
  • Potential move set – Pollen Count, Clear Smog, Sunny Day, Synthesis, Sunbeam, Grassland

Rotom mowing

While the Electric-type is weak to ground-type moves, Rotom will negate this with its Levitation ability.

Its strongest Grass-type move is Leaf Storm, which can negate the drops when paired with the Clear Smog Amoonguss.

Amoonguss can further assist by keeping Rotom healthy with Pollen Puff.

Here’s what we recommend.

Rotom Mowing – Level 100

  • Nature – Clearly
  • Capability – Hover
  • Article – Shell Bell
  • Tera type – Grass
  • Potential move set – Leaf Storm, Evil Conspiracy, Reflection, Wisp

liligant

Lilligant is one of the strongest Grass-type special attackers, and it also boasts an impressive mass.

The ability Chlorophyll doubles its speed in the sun while also allowing fast sun rays.

Quiver Dance is also one of the game’s most established moves, boosting his special attack, defense, and speed.

Here’s what we recommend.

Lilliant – Level 100

  • Nature – Clearly
  • Capability – chlorophyll
  • Article – Shell Bell
  • Tera type – Grass
  • Potential move set – Sunny Day, Sunbeam, Synthesis, Quiver Dance, Worry Seed, Grassy Terrain
