CMA Fest returns with economic boom

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) – The ultimate country music experience returns to Nashville, and not too soon. The CMA Fest returns and with it an economic boom.

The festival has generated the highest direct visitor spending of any other annual tourism event in Music City.

“I can’t say enough good things about it, and I can’t thank CMA enough,” said Burch Spyridon, CEO of Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp. (NCVC).

He also thanked everyone for their patience as the COVID-19 pandemic has brought the festival to a standstill for the past two years.

“I think the biggest thing CMA will do this year is give us another step up from where we were before,” said Barrett Hobbs, bar owner.

Spyridon said the NCVC is not only looking to the recovery from the pandemic, but also to the future, which holds great fun, financial impact and global outreach.

“$60 million is what it has been in direct spending in the past. I also expect it to be a record week. $65 to $70 million wouldn’t surprise me,” Spryidon said.

He also expects hotel room sales to break records.

“Visitors from out of town will be in the order of 50,000, so it’s a big number.” it swells to Thursday; and levels into the weekend. And it’s money.”

Millions of dollars flow into Metro and Davidson County.

“The CMA Fest is spreading far and wide across the county, and that’s amazing,” said Hobbs.

Spyridon added: “People are staying all over the county. You don’t just stay downtown. They’re not just on Airbnbs. They’re out at the airport. You meet all neighborhoods. The restaurants will benefit, so the expenses are bigger.”

The CMA Fest has been collaborating with the CMA Foundation since 2006. With more than 300 country artists donating their time, CMA has invested more than $27 million in enriching music education programs across the United States.
