College Football Playoff picks after Week 5

The number of undefeated teams remaining in major college football is now below 20, but when it comes to playoff picks, things remain steady.

For the fifth straight week, Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State are unanimous picks, though the Bulldogs made it interesting.

The Crimson Tide had the most impressive win of the leading triumvirate but also moves forward with some uncertainty. Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young left with an injury to his throwing shoulder in the second quarter of a 49-26 win at No. 20 Arkansas, but coach Nick Saban said afterwards Young had been “day-to-day.”

Ohio State fell 7-0 against the visiting Rutgers — the first time in nine encounters all-time the Buckeyes had fallen behind the Scarlet Knights — but quickly found the split on their way to a 49-10 win. Running back Miyan Williams set the school record with five touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Georgia was trailing 16-6 to Missouri at halftime and didn’t lead the game at all until 4-03 remained in the fourth quarter.

ESPN voters almost unanimously went for a fourth team for the first time this season after Clemson’s 30-20 win over NC State. The Tigers received 12 out of a possible 13 votes, with Michigan receiving the final vote.

Here’s a look at how ESPN’s college football reporters see the current playoff picture.
