Colombia Revives Relations With U.S. Foe Venezuela

BOGOTÁ, Colombia — Venezuela and Colombia have taken steps to restore ties severed in 2019 when the US and its closest allies sought to isolate the regime of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The resumption of ties between the South American neighbors marks a turning point for Colombia, the US’s longtime top partner in Latin America. Under newly elected President Gustav Petro, Colombia has pledged to stay away from the Washington-led pressure campaign against Mr Maduro’s authoritarian government. The resumption of diplomacy means that all major countries in the Americas except the US, Canada and Brazil have resumed diplomatic relations with Venezuela.
