SPRINGFIELD, Colorado- A driver who was pulled over for speeding tried to switch places with his dog to avoid arrest, Colorado police said.

An officer observed him maneuvering in the car before exiting the passenger side in Springfield, a town of about 1,300 people on the state’s Eastern Plains, Saturday night, police said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The man said he was not behind the wheel and showed clear signs of intoxication, police said. When asked how much he had been drinking, he ran from the officer and was caught within about 20 yards (18 meters), according to police.

After being taken to hospital for an examination, the man was arrested on suspicion of, among other things, committing drunk driving and/or drug driving and impaired driving, as well as previous arrest warrants against him.
