TV trailer and announcements at Comic-Con 2022

First out is a House of the Dragon trailer that promises political intrigue akin to the show it spawned from, Game of Thrones.

We also have a teaser for National Treasure: Edge of History. Although our first look at this sequel to the Nicolas Cage film doesn’t reveal much.

There was also news of a Walking Dead spin-off for Rick and Michonne, as well as details on when the final episodes of TWD will air.

While Amazon’s ultra-expensive Lord of the Rings series The Rings of Power debuted a trailer, introducing the show’s massive cast on stage.

More are to come, including The Sandman and a series of Star Trek announcements.

Movie trailers and announcements at Comic-Con 2022

The highly-anticipated sequel, John Wick 4, debuted with an action-packed trailer that sees the title character find himself in an existential crisis.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves debuted with a first trailer that has distinct Guardians of the Galaxy vibes. The film stars are Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant.

The new Predator movie Prey starred for fans. Before screening, director Dan Trachtenberg compared it to Mad Max: Fury Road. The film then received a standing ovation.

We saw Prey too, and while we can’t write a review until the embargo is lifted on August 4th, I was able to tweet my reaction…

Warner Bros. is championing DC movies, with Dwayne Johnson presenting footage of Black Adam and Zachary Levi doing the same with the new Shazam. We also get an answer to the question everyone is asking this week: Will Henry Cavill return as Superman?

As for Disney, they have a Marvel Studios panel which is the show’s hot ticket. Little is known about this at this time, with the official SDCC website stating, “Marvel Studios President and Producer Kevin Feige and special guests provide an insight into the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Although these are our predictions for the panel.

As with television, more will follow as San Diego Comic-Con 2022 really gets going tonight.

What is San Diego Comic-Con?

San Diego Comic-Con is the largest comic/tv/film convention in the world. The show began in 1969 but officially became San Diego Comic-Con – or SDCC – in 1973.

An early home for the convention was the El Cortez Hotel in downtown San Diego. The show then moved to the Convention and Performing Arts Center before settling in 1991 at the newly opened San Diego Convention Center.

Attendance has surpassed 130,000 in recent years, with the SDCC filling this convention center as well as numerous satellite locations such as hotels, bars and even parks.

When is San Diego Comic-Con?

San Diego Comic-Con takes place in late July each year. That said, the 2022 edition has already started thanks to the “Preview Night” on Wednesday July 20th.

But the actual convention begins today – July 21st – and runs through Sunday – July 24th.

As mentioned, there are hundreds of panels and events across the city during the show, but if you check our San Diego Comic-Con schedule, you can see that most of the big TV and movie announcements happen on Saturdays. They will be posted here when they happen.
