Couy Griffin, Disqualified for Jan. 6?

The January 6 lawbreakers are being prosecuted for a variety of offenses. But should the courts also bar them from holding public office, like the Confederates did after the Civil War?

That happened Tuesday in New Mexico when a state judge disqualified the Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin from holding a public office. The 14th Amendment disfellowships anyone who has once taken an oath to support the US Constitution and then “participated in an insurrection or rebellion against it.” Judge Franz Mathewof the First Circuit of New Mexico, says that language means that Mr. Griffin must be impeached and disfellowshipped “for life.”
