A distraught gunman was arrested after several shootings in Memphis Wednesday night, including some he allegedly streamed live on Facebook, according to police.

Authorities and numerous reports claim that Ezekiel Kelly, 19, who has a violent criminal history, terrorized the town for hours and led police on a wild chase before he was arrested around 9:30 p.m. No charges against him have been released.

At around 4:35 p.m., a man was shot dead at a gas station on East Parkway; A minute later, a woman was shot and seriously injured on Norris Road near I-240, according to News3. As Kelly continued his violent rampage, locals were told to stay inside if they didn’t need to be outside, public bus service was shut down and two universities were placed on high alert.

In the end, Kelly was arrested in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, which is about 11 miles from Rhodes College and 12 miles from the University of Memphis. According to the police, Kelly switched from a blue Infiniti sedan to a gray Toyota SUV during the police pursuit on Wednesday night. He is said to have shot the driver of the SUV after he stole it.

A man resembling Kelly can be seen entering an AutoZone store after getting out of his car and taking a few steps inside, in a screenshot of the Facebook live stream, which was shared widely on social media. He then pulls out a gun and shoots the man in the store twice. He yells at the camera, “Not fake, it’s real,” as he approaches the front door of the store.

According to available information, Kelly was arrested in June 2020 on suspicion of aggravated assault, negligent endangerment and attempted first-degree murder. He received a three-year sentence, but the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported he was released March 16.
