Critical Race Theory Is Bad Medicine

My membership in the American College of Surgeons dates back nearly 30 years. The sole focus of the 84,000-member professional society should be improving the standard of surgical care, but in recent years the college has prioritized the promotion of critical race theory and so-called anti-racism. Like many radicalized organizations, the College has begun punishing members who raise concerns about its new agenda.

The elevation of the college’s ideology – and the demotion of surgery – came quickly. I saw the first signs in 2019 when the college invited me Joan Y Reede to deliver his prestigious Annual Lecture. dr Reede is Dean of Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School.
