Daniel Khalife prison escape updates — Alleged terrorist ‘suspected of spying for Iran’ as police manhunt continues

The Minister of Justice announces the timetable of events

Attorney General Alex Chalk gave an overview of yesterday’s events in his speech in the House of Commons today.

He said: “Around 7.30am yesterday morning a vehicle which had brought a delivery to the prison kitchen left HMP Wandsworth.

“Local contingency plans for a missing detainee were activated shortly thereafter and, in accordance with standard procedure, the police were informed.

“The prison was put on lockdown while staff attempted to ascertain the whereabouts of Daniel Khalife.

“The vehicle was stopped and searched by police after the alarm went off. Straps were found under the vehicle, suggesting that Daniel Khalife may have held on to the underside of the vehicle to escape.”

“The search is in progress. His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service is fully supportive of the Metropolitan Police’s operation to recapture and hold Daniel Khalife in custody.”

“As the Metropolitan Police have made clear, there is no reason to believe he poses a threat to the general public.”
