Daughter speaks out after dad critically injured in Northeast Philadelphia hit-and-run while riding bike

“Right now he is in an extremely critical condition. The force of the impact broke pretty much every bone in his body,” she said.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The daughter of a cyclist who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Monday said she is praying her father pulls through.

“I’m just scared,” Justine Doughty said.

Action News was with Doughty when she received a call from the hospital.

“It just seems like every call I get gets worse and worse,” she said.

She is now praying that her father Jimmy will make it through the night.

“Right now he is in an extremely critical condition. The force of the impact broke pretty much every bone in his body,” she said.

Police say the 43-year-old cyclist and his girlfriend were traveling in the northbound lanes on Bustleton Avenue. At that moment, a driver heading north caught the man and drove on.

The impact threw the man off his bike. According to police, the bike was split in half.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. According to police, his girlfriend was not injured.

“The fact that you went ahead and just left him on the side of the road really got me,” Doughty said.

Later in the day, police found a white Range Rover in the Rhawnhurst area. Officers said it was the vehicle involved in the crash and are now searching for the driver.

“My dad is literally being put back together. It’s like a roller coaster ride. I have a lot of faith and I really think if he’s supposed to go home and be with God then he’s going to be there, but you’re never prepared for that,” Doughty said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to come forward.
