DC Films President Won’t Be There

Comic book film fans are headed to San Diego Comic-Con this year just got another punch in the pit of the stomach as filmmaker James Gunn revealed on his Instagram that he will not be attending the convention.

Which if it was almost every other filmmaker around the world, wouldn’t be a big deal. But James Gunn is not just any filmmaker. First and foremost, he’s Co-President of DC Films, which means he oversees everything DC brings to theaters big and small. Gunn is also the writer and director of Superman: Legacythe upcoming mega reboot, the recently cast its two leads. Sure, that won’t be out until 2025, but a brief mention at the con would certainly be a possibility if Gunn was there. Now, However, it seems like Gunn won’t be there in 2023, but he plans to be there in 2024, which pretty much ensures we’ll get a lot of Superman and DC then.

However, Gunn’s statement that he won’t be coming in 2023 doesn’t necessarily mean anything beyond that. Except he won’t be there himself. DC himself will have a big presence there for its animations, comics and more. And DC Films might possibly still present Ditto for Warner Bros., as both have robust, exciting projects ahead of them over the next few months that Comic-Con-goers will surely want to learn more about. movies like Blue Beetle, Dune: Part Two, Wonka, And Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. io9 contacted Warner Bros. for clarification on their Comic-Con plans, but received no response at the time of publication.
