DOVER, Delaware (WPVI) — The Delaware Senate voted to impeach State Examiner Kathy McGuinness.
Senators voted 13-7 Monday on a resolution to hold a joint session of the Legislature to unseat Democrat McGuinness.
The resolution also needs to be approved by the House of Representatives, but Speaker of the Democratic House of Representatives Pete Schwartzkopf said he has no plans to call a special session.
He criticized the Senate vote as “political theatre”.
McGuiness was recently convicted of misdemeanor charges of conflict of interest, official misconduct and forging a contract with a consulting firm to circumvent government procurement compliance. She was acquitted of the crimes of theft and intimidation of witnesses.
