Delran High School football player excels on the field despite limb difference

DELRAN, NJ (WPVI) — When you watch 16-year-old Colin Moore play football, you can tell he puts his heart and soul into it.

But you might not be able to tell that he’s doing this without an important part of his body.

“I’ve always had to have a mind of steel and a heart of gold and keep moving forward no matter what,” says Moore.

The Delran High School junior was missing the lower part of his right arm at birth. Although the difference in limbs never stopped him, it was an obstacle in his life.

“The only thing I really knew was that I had to work twice, triple, four times as hard as everyone else.”

On the football field, Moore hopes to be the starting center – a position that requires tremendous lower and upper body strength.

“I make up for it with speed and power,” Moore said.

He hits hard in the weight room and recently broke a personal record of 165 pounds.

So would he say that balancing made him stronger than just about every athlete he sees out there?

“Yes, and just a lot of doubts that other people have when I tell people what I want to do,” he says.

His coach Frank Holmes adds: “What I can say about Colin is this: he was born with a challenging situation, life kind of threw him a curveball, but every day he’s hitting that curveball out of the park. His attitude, his intense focus, he’s positively self-taught, he’s just full of intensity in everything he does.”

It’s that underdog mentality that reminds us of another stud center in our area – Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles.

So he aspires to be like him?

“Yes, sure,” says Moore. “Big man, tough guy. I look up to stuff like that.”

Action News’ Jamie Apody shares a special message from Jason Kelce during an interview with Colin Moore.

Kelce even messaged Moore after Action News shared a video of his weightlifting success.

“Hey Colin, Jason Kelce here. I just finished watching the video – this one arm power clean. And man — you’re an inspiring brother,” Kelce said. “You are an inspiration to me, the epitome of endurance, the epitome of hungry dogs that run faster. And I gotta tell you — I think I’m speaking on behalf of the rest of the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line that we’d like to invite you down to camp, bro. i need to meet you We have to meet you.”
