Denzel Washington Is Poised to Sign On for Gladiator Sequel

Denzel Washington is in “final negotiations” for a starring role in the series gladiator Consequenceper a new news report meeting. Paul Mescal is already signed for the film, and Ridley Scott returns to management. In addition, two veterinarians from original movieAlso on board are costume designer Janty Yates and production designer Arthur Max. Yates’ costume design for the original film received an Academy Award and Max’s work resulted in a nomination.

At present, Washington’s role is kept secret. He and Scott have worked together before when Washington starred American gangster. Deadline says that “after reading the script, sources close to the project said he was excited about the hard-hitting role Scott wrote for him.”

Russell Crowe‘s Maximus will not return. He famous died at the end of the 2000 film and during The film won both Crowe an Oscar and brought him in Hollywood’s leading man, the sequel will not feature his return. Mescal will also not take on the role of Maximus, instead playing Lucius, the little boy that Maximumus rescued after he killed Commodus in the gladiator ring at the end of the film.

Washington’s role is being kept under wraps.
