DICE’s new General Manager, Rebecka Coutaz, had one of her first job interviews since joining and she took a tough stance on DICE’s future ventures.
DICE is famous for its work on Battlefield, but has also developed games like Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars Battlefront. Both games have cult followings, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing new installments for either franchise any time soon.
Coutaz said in an interview with GamesIndustry that the studio has “no time” for non-Battlefield projects.
DICE turns its full attention to Battlefield 2042
After a disappointing start to Battlefield 2042, Coutaz believes the team can get back on track, saying, “I want the team to be really proud of Battlefield 2042. That’s what they’re after and they put their heart and passion there.”
Battlefield 2042 Season 1 went live on June 9th and the update notably added a new map titled Exposure and a Battle Pass. Coutaz explained, “DICE spent over six months tweaking and improving the game enough that it was confident of launching its first season of live content in early June.”
Exposure has been well received by the community and Coutaz responded by saying, “Players are enjoying our map and the content we’ve provided, so it’s a win for us and it makes us feel better.”
Venture Beat journalist jeff grub claimed on June 8 that the Battefield 2042 development team had entered “Abandon Ship” mode, leaving only a “skeleton crew” on board for the remaining content updates.
On GrubbSnax today I said that Battlefield is now just a small crew trying to fulfill their DLC commitments. EA has come forward to say this is not true. pic.twitter.com/Wpj79d9pMM

EA dismissed the claim, and Coutaz’s statements underscore DICE’s commitment to Battlefield 2042. The General Manager added, “We want DICE to become the number one first-person shooter game in Europe and one of the powerhouses in the world . It’s a fabulous team. We will do magic together.”
DICE still has a long way to go if the studio is to save Battlefield 2042, but Coutaz made some very optimistic comments about Battlefield’s future.
