Diego Sanchez ponders possibility of Mike Tyson vs. Anderson Silva special rules boxing match

Eagle FC star Diego Sanchez has touched on a possible fight between Mike Tyson and Anderson Silva. Taking to his official Instagram account, Sanchez, a former UFC fighter, suggested that a possible fight between the two martial arts legends really would be a dream match.

Sanchez tagged Triller co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh and Triller’s Triad Combat in his Instagram post, hinting that a special rules Triad Combat match between Tyson and Silva would be intriguing.

It should be noted that a triad match is a mixed rules/special rules match that takes place in a triangular ring and allows the fighters to use primarily boxing techniques, including fist-returns. However, the fighters cannot throw elbows, knees or kicks. Although ground fighting is not permitted, grappling in the clinch is more permitted than is usual in boxing.

Diego Sanchez also tagged Mike Tyson, Anderson Silva and world famous professional boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. Sanchez’s Instagram post featured a photo of Tyson shaking hands with Silva. Sanchez added the following statement to the post:

“This is a dream match with @ryankavanaughofficial @eddiehearn as you can imagine with @triad_combat rules @miketyson @spiderandersonsilva.”

Chael Sonnen on a possible fight between Anderson Silva and Jake Paul

The chances of retired pro boxing icon Mike Tyson entering a Triad Combat fight are extremely slim. Therefore, the Triad Combat fight between Tyson and Silva that Diego Sanchez proposed is unlikely to materialize. Tyson last fought in an exhibition boxing match in November 2020 and has expressed an interest in competing in more exhibition bouts in the future.

Similarly, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva fought in two professional boxing matches last year and competed in an exhibition boxing match earlier this month. With that in mind, an exhibition boxing match between Mike Tyson and Anderson Silva could be a realistic possibility.

Regardless, in a recent issue of Beyond the fight, Chael Sonnen highlighted why Silva should fight YouTube megastar and boxer Jake Paul next. While Tyson has not competed since November 2020, Paul last fought in December 2021. Also, Paul will box again on August 13th.

Speaking of which, Sonnen explained that a Silva-Paul boxing match could be a high-profile fight, but only if that Silva does his part to promote the fight. sun said:

“That would be a main event fight…I don’t begrudge him [Silva] Therefore [lack of self-promotion]. But it’s a reality and it’s not what’s useful or helpful to what Jake Paul is currently trying to do. Jake does his part, he shows interest… He opens the door, but Anderson has to kick it in.”
