Diplo escapes the flooded Burning Man on foot and makes it across the country for a DC concert in one day

Diplo fled the flooded Burning Man with Chris Rock on Saturday morning, six miles before catching two rides to the airport en route to a nationwide show in Washington, DC that evening.

However, the DJ and comedian were determined to escape the swamp and set out first on foot on Saturday morning. On his Instagram page, Diplo revealed that he once ran six miles down the street “with a thumbs out.” He and Rock were eventually picked up by a fan.

Sharing a video clip of himself riding in the back of the pickup truck with Rock and several others, Diplo wrote, “I actually walked along the side of the road for hours with my thumbs out because I have a show in DC tonight and I didn’t want to.” Abandon you all. Thanks also to this guy who made the smart purchase of a truck not knowing he was there for that exact moment ❤️”
“All Chris could think of was a bloody cold brew,” he captioned the video himself, while the comedian joked how awesome that would be.
Later updates of his Instagram stories confirmed Diplo made it to his show. “No one made it out of Burning Man,” he wrote, “they didn’t think we were going to walk 6 miles through the mud…no one thought we were going to come down to DC for the show tonight.” But God did.”

He chronicled his long walk from Burning Man to the DC airport on the train platform, adding that after their pickup ride, they met “these hippies with a fan in the next town,” who agreed to drive them to the airport for two hours drive .

In his IG Stories, Rock had reported on his own Burning Man experience and informed about the deteriorating living conditions of festival-goers. In a now-expired story, per ANDRock shared that “because of the flooding, the toilet bowls are reportedly unable to be emptied.” In addition, due to the conditions, it was not possible to fill generators or reduce supplies.
The event itself has kept fans updated on its X page (formerly Twitter) and set up one 2023 Wet Playa Survival Guide on its website for participants. They are not asking anyone to travel to Black Rock City as the city is currently closed.
