That Tollywood cinema extravaganza RRR has become a global phenomenon and an awards season hopeful– and now the time has come get a sequel.
The film was originally intended as a standalone film, as director SS Rajamouli told diversity. “When we did it, we had no idea about it [a sequel],” he said. “Given the initial success, we discussed a bit and came up with some good ideas, but we didn’t feel like there was a great idea worth pursuing, so we left it at that.” The possibility of a sequel was trelieved by Rajamouli to a Beyond the festival crowd a few months ago (io9 was there!); he said ideas were beginning to seep between him and his father, who wrote the story for the first film, along with screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad.
The Rajamoulis took some creative liberties when they brought this up Revolutionary heroes of the film together for the action-packed and mythological crossover film – and the approach they took has clearly worked ever since audience were I wanted more from NTR Jr. and Ram Charan Teja than Bheem and Ram on screen. The director revealed that Prasad and his father are “seriously working on the story‘ which will focus on the return of the heroes, perhaps with the help of other revolutionary heroes (something we suspect in which RRR credits) to combat colonialism. They came up with the idea when another family member came across the concept, Rajamouli explained. “AAfter the international success, when the topic came up again, my cousin [M. M. Keeravani]—who is also part of my core team—came up with an idea where we were like, ‘Oh my god, that’s a great idea. That’s the idea worth pursuing.’”
With the film’s smash hit on Netflix (although the streamer still doesn’t offer the original telegu Execution) inspirational theatrical performances, including Aside from Fest’s sold-out IMAX presentation at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, we hope the sequel will open up more opportunities to see the film in more glorious presentations. “OnWhen that script is done, we’re really going to look at how it’s going to be done, when it’s going to be done, and how it’s going to be brought to the screen,” Rajamouli said.
We all agree that we want it in all visual formats. I mean come on, James Cameron is resurrecting the 3D experience Avatar: The Way of Waterand Rajamouli, who has been compared to the legendary director published a 3D cut of RRR abroad—so the time is now. Consider RRR in theatre or watch it on Netflix.
