‘Disenchanted’ brings a wicked twist for Giselle’s happily ever after

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Fifteen years after Disney’s “Enchanted” became a fan favorite, the original cast is back with a big question: is there really a “happy ending”?

The highly anticipated sequel is called Disenchanted and it will be streaming on Disney+ on Friday.

Our Alicia Vitarelli got the chance to chat with the stars, who are thrilled to be back for a whole new adventure.

If you’re wondering how happily ever after works for Giselle and Robert, you’re about to find out.

It’s all one big fairy tale, until things get a little “disenchanted.”

“It’s wonderful to be back,” says Amy Adams, reprising her role as “Giselle.” “I am so grateful.”

This film continues 10 years after the end of the first film. Amy Adams says Giselle is a new mom and the family is leaving the big city for the suburbs.

But real life gets difficult, even for sunny Giselle.

“There are a few twists and turns and we see Giselle in a new way,” says Adams.

She gets a chance to make a wish, but this one comes with a nasty twist.

“We always assume that we’re the hero of the fairy tale or the naïve,” says Adams.

Not this time! This is where Giselle becomes an evil stepmother.

Idina Menzel is back too.

“It’s so much fun seeing characters you’ve been away from for a while,” says Menzel. “You can’t always do that.”

This time Nancy is the Queen of Andalasia.

“She lives the fairytale life with hot King Edward and has no problem in the world,” laughs Menzel. “The hard part was figuring out how much more I should give her that kind of New York sensibility. It was fun playing with it.”

Maya Rudolph joins the cast as juicy new villain Malvina Monroe.

“She’s fun,” laughs Rudolph. “She is very tasty.”

Gabriella Baldacchino is also new to the cast as Morgan as an adult.

“It was a dream come true,” says Baldacchino. “Just playing in this enchanted universe was surreal.”

“I hope people experience the joy that we experienced in making it,” says Adams, “because it was very special for us.”
