Disney taps into the wealth of talent at Historically Black Colleges and Universities with Walt Disney World Resort college fair

To create opportunities for future storytellers and to strengthen ties with historically black colleges and universities, The Walt Disney Company directs recruitment efforts to these campuses. Disney On The Yard is a unique program that offers students enrolled at HBCUs the opportunity to showcase their skills and talent to The Walt Disney Company.

“We just want these students to have a chance at a successful career. Whether it’s Disney or another company, for us the heart is providing opportunities for mentorship, access and the opportunity to go to college and continue to be successful in your career and we hope Disney is one of the companies you are considering,” said Avis Lewis, vice president of human resources, Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks International/Executive Champion, “Disney On The Yard”.

This year, for the first time ever, Walt Disney World Resort is hosting a Disney On the Yard event. High school students from across the Southeast and beyond will descend on the Walt Disney World Resort next month for the biggest HBCU week ever, complete with a massive college fair, a parade of pontificating marching bands, an all-out band battle and a live ESPN broadcast .

The Oct. 7-9 College Fair is a partnership with the HBCU Week Foundation, which aims to encourage high school-age youth to enroll in HBCUs and create a pipeline for employment. In addition to fun and entertainment, the program also awards on-site college acceptance letters and partial to full scholarships. More than $10 million in grants is expected to be awarded.
