Diversity consulting business driving change within companies

ALBANY, New York– Melody Harkness, director and CEO of Harkness Consulting Solutions, knows what it’s like to feel “confined in a company”.

“Personally, I have experienced tokenism and microaggressions, racism and sexism. It has been a personal mission for me to find solutions for those who have had experiences similar to mine,” she says.

In 2020, she took a leap of faith and opened her own consulting firm to help introduce more inclusive workplace practices, policies and procedures. Through training, business marketing plans, workshops and company reviews, Harkness and her team’s mission is to help organizations have the right skills and resources to motivate change and improvement.

Lillian Rafson, founder and CEO of Pack Up + Go and Melody’s first client, credits Harkness Consulting Solutions with elevating her on both a personal and professional level. “As a company, we’re so focused on openness for our travelers and encouraging people to learn more about places, people and communities that they might not engage with every day, and I wanted my team to have the same opportunity,” Lillian told Melody at their very first face-to-face meeting after two years of working together. Melody nodded in agreement and added, “Progress is just that, people decide that they want to do more as an individual in this company.”
