Yesterday (May 20), the artist tweeted that “her entire throat is dead” after the surgery and that she “may have some bad news for you guys coming up.”

Accordingly, she has now pulled out of all her festival days this summer, including at Wireless in the UK, as well as her planned support tour with The Weeknd.

“Hi guys, I want you to hear it from me first,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “Unfortunately, I had to have tonsil surgery as soon as possible. Surgery is common, but recovery will take some time due to swelling.

“That means I have to cancel my carnival this summer as well as my The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and creating experiences for you guys.”

In a recent tweet, Doja shared more details about how she had to have tonsillectomy. “No, so my tonsils got infected before the BBMAs and I was on damn antibiotics but forgot I was taking them and then I drank and drank wine all day and then I started drinking. head had a nasty lump on his tonsils, so they had to have surgery today,” she wrote.

“I’m giving up vaping for a while and hopefully I don’t crave it anymore,” she said, before adding that the idea of throwing away her vape “just adds to the panic.”

“I was really staring at my vape today that normally I would hit a thousand times a day and twice instead,” added Doja. “I’m trying cold turkey now but hopefully my brain won’t need it by then.”

Last month, Doja told fans she was moving away from music in a series of tweets she posted after the festival’s appearance was cancelled. “I gave up [and] I can’t wait to disappear,” she wrote.

She later apologized and went back to claiming, but has since doubled down on her original vow to retire, saying she would give up “soon” from touring with The Weeknd. Doja Cat cancels 2022 festival shows and The Weeknd support tour for tonsil surgery
