Drag Race UK star Ellie Diamond puts glamor act on hold due to the cost of living crisis

DRAG Race UK star Ellie Diamond has announced that she is shedding her wig and putting her glamor gig on hold due to the cost of living crisis.

The 24-year-old actress rose to fame with her participation in the televised talent show in 2021 where she placed fourth.

But Dundee-born Elliot Glen – who created the flamboyantly dressed character when he was just 16 – has now told fans he’s taking his career on hiatus from performing after taking on another job to pay the bills.

In a statement posted to Ellie’s Twitter page, he said: “Hi everyone, I thought I’d just update and let you guys know what’s going on with me at the moment.” I’m currently living in a new house after moving out of my apartment , because the cost of living and the rent are too high for where I live. So a lot of my stuff is back in stock including all my drag outfits.

“This decision was very easy for me because what I need right now is stability with a job and a routine that boring life doesn’t offer me at the moment.

“I’m definitely not quitting drag-drag, but I’m definitely pushing Ellie aside for now.”

Ellie was one of 12 contestants on Season 2 of Drag Race UK – hosted by flamboyant US star RuPaul, 62.

Last year she took part in an official drag race tour.

But Elliot admitted he’s been struggling lately and was relieved to be able to step away from his alter ego.

He said: “It’s really easy to lose sight of goals and with mental health, trying to adjust to work becomes a struggle when there’s imbalance and instability.

“Once I made that decision, a kind of burden was lifted from me – to exceed fan expectations, to always be online and on social media.

“Well I’m happy to say I’m really happy right now, more so than I’ve been in the last year and a half. I have a part-time job that I’m really looking forward to and developing into.

“And when that time comes, Ellie will be back.”

Elliot added, “I will continue to perform on all the shows that are promoted, but she’s not my main focus right now – I am.”

Elliot now lives in Manchester. The RuPaul Drag Race UK series that Ellie competed in was won by Lawrence Chaney, 26, from Glasgow.
