Drivers are just realising how to reduce fire risk with little-known button – it could save your life

A DRIVING TEST expert has revealed a little-known button that can help reduce the risk of car fires.
The Motors expert, who goes by the nickname “Driving Test Success” on TikTok, uploaded a clip sharing the handy hack with drivers.
She explained that there is a hidden switch that allows you to put your rearview mirror into anti-glare mode.
This prevents the mirror from reflecting the sun’s rays back into the car.
This is an important safety measure because it can help drivers avoid being blinded by the sun and keep their eyes on the road.
It even works at night by preventing the lights of other cars from entering the driver’s eyes.
Just last year, a study by the RAC found that 88% of Brits have been blinded by headlights.
In addition, almost two thirds were worried about the resulting risk of accidents.
But it can also help prevent fires, as reflected sunlight is known to start fires.
Back in May, a fire department issued an urgent warning after sunglasses left on a car dashboard caused a devastating fire.
Images showed a gaping hole where the sun’s rays had melted a hole in the windshield.
All you have to do is find the small lever behind the mirror and pull it until it locks upright.
This tilts the mirror up and redirects the light from the rear of the vehicle so that the driver cannot be seen.
Social media Commentators were amazed by the hack.
One wrote: “My car does this by itself which is pretty cool.”
Another added: “I clicked on the icon below and was scared because all the lights looked green. I didn’t know it was anti-glare.”
It came after a £200,000 Porsche electric vehicle was filmed bursting into flames in China.
Meanwhile, a car cleaning expert has revealed the four things you should never do when washing your vehicle.
