Meta makes its smart portal displays more useful for field workers. you can use the second generation Portal Plus as a second display for your Mac or Windows PC. The new functionality comes courtesy of , the app that inspired Apple’s in macOS Catalina. Typically, you’d either have to buy a copy of the software or sign up to use Duet Display, but CEO Rahul Dewan told Engadget that the company is making both wired and local wireless secondary display capabilities available to portal users for free.
Note that you cannot use the app during video calls with Portal Go or Portal Plus. Duet Display is available to download on Portal Plus in US, Canada, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Australia and New Zealand and on Portal Go in US, Canada, UK, France, Spain and Italy.
Meta also releases the Portal app for macOS. The software allows you to share your screen during the call. You can also use the app to send links to the device and more easily access controls like mute. The Portal Companion app is available for download in the US and UK.
Duet Display’s arrival on Portal devices comes after Meta reportedly decided to launch in June The information and diversity said the company will not announce new consumer versions of the smart display line.
