Amazon has announced good deals for more devices ahead of Prime Day. This time, some smart displays get big discounts. The Echo Show 5, for example, is down to just $35 for Prime members. That’s $10 off the previous all-time low and $50 below list price.

The second generation Echo Show 5 came out last summer. In our test, we gave the smart display with a 5.5-inch screen diagonal 85 points.
It’s a solid choice for a bedside unit, especially given the “tap-to-snooze” feature. The decent audio quality doesn’t hurt either. On the other hand, we found the user interface to be less intuitive than perhaps it should be. The webcam, meanwhile, is just 2MP, although that’s still an improvement over Amazon’s first-gen Echo Show 5.
Amazon has also reduced the price of the Echo Show 8. It has fallen from $110 to $55. However, it’s worth noting that the deal is for the first-gen version of the device, released in 2019. An updated model followed in 2021.

The 8-inch smart display has a camera shutter (like the Echo Show 5) and stereo sound. It’s powered by Alexa and supports video calls, but only has a 1-megapixel webcam – the second-gen Echo Show 8 has a 13-megapixel webcam. Still, $55 isn’t a bad price if you’re looking for an affordable smart display with a larger, higher-resolution screen than the Echo Show 5.
