El Segundo falls to Texas 3-1 at Little League World Series

There was still hope for El Segundo Monday night in the sixth inning of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

El Segundo was two runs behind Texas and brought on two runners after hitting batter with two outs. Louis Lappe, El Segundo’s hard-hitting infielder, took the lead. In the first inning, he hit a massive solo home run into midfield.

But Texas backup pitcher Easton Ondruch came through. He eliminated Lappe, gave Texas a 3-1 win and sent El Segundo into the losers bracket on Tuesday. The team from Needville, Texas, just outside of Houston, was led by DJ Jablonski, who had five hits in 5 1/3 innings and also hit a home run.

Texas played great defense, including a flying backhand catch from shortstop Dayln Martin and two excellent catches by outfielders.

El Segundo fielded four pitchers but never managed to get the clutch hit with the runners on base, even though his top batters had shot chances.

The El Segundo pitching team will now be put to the test as they anticipate reaching Saturday’s US Championship game. El Segundo needs wins on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
