Election 2022: Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano holds campaign rally in Aston, Pennsylvania

ASTON, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano detailed his social and economic plan for Pennsylvania if he wins next November’s election.

Mastriano stopped by Gatsby’s Bar and Grill in Aston, Delaware County on Wednesday. He says making Pennsylvania a leader in power generation is high on his agenda.

“On day one, we will roll back the regional greenhouse gas initiative. It is settled. We’re going to cut costs across the state,” he said. “We’ll drill and dig like there’s no tomorrow.”

Mastriano also spoke out in favor of barring transgender women from participating in women’s sports, cracking down on the rampant crime that is particularly plaguing our major cities, and lifting any remaining nationwide COVID-19 restrictions.

Meanwhile, a group supporting Democrat Josh Shapiro rallied ahead of the event and said Mastriano’s plan was bad for the environment and bad for the social justice movement. Among the speakers was Mastriano’s colleague in the State Senate, John Kane of Delaware County.

“Delaware County will be behind Josh Shapiro 110%. Josh has a proven track record of what he’s going to do and Doug Mastriano doesn’t,” Kane said.

Mastriano spoke about his admiration for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had campaigned for Mastriano in Pennsylvania a few days ago.

“Our goal,” says the GOP hopeful, “and we will achieve it, our goal is to make Pennsylvania the Florida of the North.”

Mastriano went on to hold a campaign rally in Lancaster County.

Josh Shapiro has several campaign events planned for the coming weekend.

The general election is now less than three months away.
